Diagnostic System
Our customer's objective was to get 20 functional samples with "over-mold" features for a tradeshow. A few rounds of SLA prototypes were built to qualify the design and the assembly. Once the design was approved, an SLA pattern was built to be used for RTV molding.
The part consists of two materials. The first material is an 80 Shore D urethane with a light matte texture. The second is a black over-mold material of 60 Shore A urethane. This project was completed in three weeks. It was very successful for the customer's tradeshow. The final assembly was functional with a lit-up screen and a detachable battery.
A later update for this diagnostic system was run on our in-house Connex500 polyjet machine. 2 sets of this prototype were made quickly, effectively and accurately in 2-3 days versus the 2-3 weeks of the RTV molding. The polyjet prototype was a dual material overmolded part that used VeroWhite and TangoBlack material. This prototype was used for fit, form and some assembly for feeling the overmold part.
